Getting Into the Holiday Spirit…By Gifting Spirits!

You’re heading off to meet a friend and you realize that you’ve forgotten to get them a gift. Eeek! When you don’t know what to get someone for the holidays, give the gift of spirits! Nowadays, the liquor and wine stores have nicely packaged bottles with glassware or bar accessories to make the gift extra special. But, for me, I like to dress for cocktails and dress my cocktails! Here are my tips for dressing […]

A Starry, Starry Night

Peacock feathers, strands of pearls and champagne coupes were all the rage at The Alfond Inn for the annual Rollins College scholarship benefit. Mr. Dasch-ing and I dressed to the nines in our best flapper glam.  Upon arrival, all the ladies were treated to a feather boa in their choice of color – a nice touch! The roaring 20s are known for art deco designs, velvet and satin fabrics, embellishments of pearls and rhinestones – […]

Set the Stage, It’s Movie Night

They say staying in is the new going out…and that suits me just fine.  I find the big screen is too big for this girl. I love a good movie and a great series – especially ones with a touch of romance and a happy ending (I know, I’m a romantic at heart). I even like binge watching where the next episode starts before you have time to find the clicker, and by then you’re […]

Loveliness, Elegance and Whimsy – the Perfect Mix

Imagine a cocktail mixed with loveliness, elegance, whimsy, color and fun – that’s what we delighted in on our West Virginia trip.  Last minute vacations can be the most fun. Mr. Dasch-ing had business to tend to in DC, so I flew up last minute to join him for a trip through the Blue Ridge mountains. I never knew why they were named such, but do now – there is a glorious blue glow along the […]

A Sip of Romance

I’m in love with love, and Mr. Dasch-ing of course, so when they brought out a Champagne called Romance I was delighted, but more on that in a minute. We recently toured the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, the Chateauesque-styled mansion, built by George Vanderbilt, II. After our walking tour of the 250 room house, we were parched. So off to the Antler Hill Village for some refreshment. Along the drive we stopped to relish […]

Watermelon Cocktail

Hot, hot, hot!  Summer’s here and nothing could be sweeter, or more refreshing, than a than a slice of watermelon.  Which got me thinking… That slice could be even more refreshing if I turned it into a cocktail. So that’s exactly what I did.   Here’s the simple and easy recipe: Purée enough watermelon cubes to yield 1/3 cup juice. I used a blender.  Strain. If you’re like me and don’t like the seeds, this […]

He said Colada? I said Why-not-a!

Happy National Pina Colada Day!  This is certainly a cause for celebration.  If you like Pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain – oh wait, the sun is shining today so I’ve dressed in SPF 50 for poolside sipping.  For a truly tropical taste, you must add fresh pineapple. Two years ago, my dad planted the top of his pineapple in our garden. It’s almost ready for picking but not in time for this […]

For Slope-side Sipping

All this talk of cold weather has inspired me to sheer and stitch up a little faux fur number for our trip to Tahoe. Just enough fur was left over for cuffs, perfect compliment to that cup of Baileys Irish Cream and Chai I’ll be sipping slope-side. Stay warm Northern friends! Baileys Chai Swizzle (A Baileys® Original Irish Cream Recipe) 1.5 ounces Baileys® Original Irish Cream 3 ounces brewed chai tea Raw brown sugar Cinnamon […]

Om-Peer

Inspired by Josephine, the empire (pronounced om-peer) style of dress is one to enhance the bust, and disguise the tummy.  While typically offset by a flowing skirt, I prefer a more fitted appearance.  This emerald green silk-charmeuse coupled with the piquet sateen fabric will make for a nice ensemble. The monotone color scheme makes for a nice pairing with a Continental Martini.  Once a popular cocktail, this old-fashioned mixture of light rum and mint cordial […]

Waves of Blue

One of the things I love about traveling is the fabric finds I discover. This Trina Turk outdoor fabric was a steal at Boca Bargoons in Naples. The wavy design will flow nicely with the river as a backdrop. Cushions are being made and will soon be featured on the lanai at the FishHouse. One of the things I love about traveling is the fabric finds I discover. While fabric hunting in Naples, Florida, I […]
